"There are two ways of spreading light: to be the candle or the mirror that reflects it." - Edith Wharton, First Woman to Win the Pulitzer Prize for Literature
Women - especially creative women - have always embodied and reflected the light and shadow that lives in society. Join the men and women of YPCC for an evening of song paired with visual art curated by Cincinnati Art Museum staff. Mothers, sisters, daughters, friends and colleagues who identify as women breathe life into pieces of art, brilliant ideas, and people around them. The concept of chiaroscuro (light and shadow) brilliantly depicts the struggle and success of women who have blazed trails, especially in a year of reflecting upon the centennial anniversary of suffrage success.
This concert embodies the POWER OF HER, a campaign presented by ArtsWave and other Cincinnati Arts organizations that focuses on celebrating women in the arts. Curators from Cincinnati Art Museum have partnered with YPCC this fall to craft an audience experience that blends visual and sonic art forms.. These works, created by, for and about women, reflect this ethos of the light and the shadow that appears in the personal and professional journeys of women from throughout time and society.
